Jerry Smith Park, enter at 139th & Holmes
DIRECTIONS: Take I-435 to Holmes Road. Proceed south on Holmes to 139th Street (immediately south of the Blue River bridge). Turn left (east) on 139th Street. The Jerry Smith Park entrance is 0.75 mile on the left.

Celebrate National Trails and Prairie Day with KC Parks at a Party on the Prairie! Enjoy family and environmentally friendly activities amidst the flora and fauna of Jackson County’s only remnant prairie. Live music, guided trail hikes, bird walks, hay rides, plein air quick paint competition, scavenger hunt, prairie touch table from Lakeside Nature Center and more!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
9 a.m. Bird Walk with Sherry Leonardo, Burroughs Audubon Society (please arrive by 8:45 a.m.)
9-10 a.m.: Quick Paint Artist Check-in
9 a.m.-1 p.m.: Prairie Touch Table, Prairie Scavenger Hunt, Hay Rides
10 a.m. Prairie Hike with Tom Schroeder, Master Naturalist, KC Wildland’s Volunteer – 1.25 mile loop hike – learn about the amazing things that live in the world’s most endangered ecosystem – the tallgrass prairie! Not appropriate for wheel chairs or strollers.
10 a.m.-Noon: Live Music. Calvin Arsenia, song writer, singer and harpist, will be joined by jazz saxophonist Mark Southerland to serenade the Party on the Prairie. This unique acoustic pairing will perform both songs and standards woven together with improvisational musings.
10 a.m.-Noon: Quick Paint Competition
11 a.m.: Free Hot Dog, Chips and Water (served until we run out)
11:30 a.m. Prairie Hike Lite with Tom Schroeder – short, accessible walk to the overlook and back
12-12:30 p.m.: Quick Paint Voting (People’s Choice)
12:45 p.m.: Quick Paint Purchase Award
