As part of #KCParks125, we are featuring all 104 Park Board Commissioners in order of their service. A new Commissioner will be featured every Monday and Friday in 2017. George Holmes (1834-1910) served as a Commissioner from 1890-1892. Mr. Holmes was born in England and came to the United States when he was 17 years old. He traveled around the western areas of the United States. He settled in Jackson County, Missouri and finally in the town of Westport. He was in the grain and cattle business and in banking. Mr. Holmes was appointed as County Assessor of Jackson County in 1899, then City Assessor in Kansas City in 1902. He also served on the Board of Public Works.
