{Throwback Thursday} #KCParks125 #TBTThis lovely bridge crosses Brush Creek from Benton Boulevard to Swope Parkway. When it was proposed in 1920, it was seen as an important link between North Terrace Park (now Kessler Park) in the northeast area of Kansas City to Swope Park on the south side.Construction began in 1922 and in July 1923 the bridge, with the former construction title of Benton Boulevard Bridge, was dedicated as the Frank P. Sebree Bridge. This was to honor Frank Sebree who had been Park Board President from 1918 until his term on the Park Board expired in 1922. Mr. Sebree said at the dedication, “To have had a small part in the construction of this beautiful bridge and then to have it bear my name is an honor of which I shall ever be very proud.” (Kansas City Star July 4, 1923 p. 4)Currently, the bridge gets heavy use every day and with the passage of recent bond money, plans are being made to provide some needed repairs. #ThrowbackThursday #KCParks #historicnortheastkc | KC Parks Instagram Photos
