{Throwback Thursday} Property for a boulevard going east from 7th Street and Grand was chosen in 1900 but not given a name. In 1903, Admiral Boulevard was named to honor Admiral Dewey who led the American naval fleet to victory over the Spanish naval fleet in Manila Bay in the Philippines in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. In 1906, a proposal was made to rename Admiral to “Van Horn” after Robert T. Van Horn, a Kansas City pioneer, but the name of “Admiral” was kept. #TBT #KCParks #KCParks125 #ThrowbackThursday | KC Parks Instagram Photos
