Nelson transferred property just west of the Nelson’s home Oak Hall to the City of Westport to be used as a part of Warwick Boulevard. The property was accepted by the city of Westport on June 17, 1891. The plat name of the lot was “Southmoreland”. In 1897 the City of Westport voted to become a part of the city of Kansas City. When that occurred, after legal issues were settled in 1899, all property belonging to Westport transferred to Kansas City including the Southmoreland property, which was made into a park. #throwbackthursday | KC Parks Instagram Photos
