WILLIAM BARTON (1899-1901) #13As part of #KCParks125, we are featuring all 104 Park Board Commissioners in order of their service.William Barton (1856-1917) sold his hat business in St. Louis in 1887 and came to Kansas City in 1888 to go into the shoe business with his brothers Kimber and George. William Barton became president of the Barton Brothers Shoe Company.Mr. Barton purchased a home at 3310 Harrison in 1890. He was President of the Commercial Club in 1897 – 1898 at a time money was being raised to build a new Convention Hall. He was a founding member of the Kansas City Club and was involved in the Sons of the Revolution.In 1899, William Barton was appointed to the Board of Park Commissioners upon the death of S. B. Armour.
