WILLIAM CHARLES GLASS (1892-1895)As part of #KCParks125, we are featuring all 104 Park Board Commissioners in order of their service.William Charles Glass (1842-1906) was born in County Donegal, Ireland and came to the United States by himself in 1856 when he was 14 years old. His elder brother, James, had already come over and settled in Illinois. He fought in the Civil War, joining the Seventeenth Illinois Infantry in 1861 and rose to the rank of Colonel. He married in 1865 and, after several business ventures, came to Kansas City in 1874. He established a wholesale liquor business and also acquired substantial real estate holdings. He became involved with movements for the betterment of Kansas City and was appointed to the Park Board in March 1892 and served on the Board until 1895.
