    The Course

Swope Memorial has challenged golfers since the turn of the 20th century. In 1996 Swope Memorial celebrated its 90th year of play, making it the oldest public course in the greater Kansas City area. It was closed in 1989 to be restored to its original Tillinghast design of 1934. The “new” Swope Memorial re-opened in the summer of 1990 and has become a marvelous course with a rich tradition. The golf course is a par 72 and measures 6,274 yards.

Swope’s unique layout includes zoysia fairways, undulated greens and many sand and grass bunkers. Swope Memorial comes complete with a fully-stocked pro shop, snack bar and banquet room. Rental clubs, golf and pull carts are also available.

Designed in 1934 by legendary architect A.W. Tillinghast, Swope Memorial Golf Course was once the home of the PGA Tour’s Kansas City Open (1949), making it the only public course in the area to have hosted a PGA Tour event. Carved out of the wooded land in Swope Park, this tight layout, along with its undulated fairways and multi-tiered greens, provides a true test of golf; one that legends Ben Hogan and Sam Snead have been challenged by.

Skyline views of downtown, accompanied by the roars of lions from the KC Zoo below, give this course character that is unmatched anywhere in the city. Come out and experience what people consider the best value in KC!

A paramobile is the equivalent of a one-person golf cart with a very important difference – it allows the person using it to stand, regardless of whether they have the function of their legs or not. Kansas City, MO Parks and Recreation is dedicated to serving all members of the community. The paramobile will allow persons with disabilities to stand and take an actual golf swing. This opens the sport of golf to people who haven’t been able to play due to an accident, or people who have never learned how to play because of a lifelong condition. There is no cost to use the Paramobile, but normal green fees apply.  The Paramobile can be reserved for use at any of our golf courses with a 48 hour notice.
