Starlight Theatre Offers Spring Break Options for Grades 1-12

SpringBreakCamp2016_StarlightTheatreStarlight Theatre is trying something new during Spring Break 2017. In past years, Starlight’s Spring Break Camp was open for youth ages 6 to 14. However, recognizing the interests, skills and schedules of aspiring young artists varied significantly across that age range, Starlight decided to customize its theatre arts education options in 2017:

  • Spring Break Camp is now for children in grades 1 to 5.
As in previous years, two camp sessions are offered to unleash children’s creativity and talents. Kansas City kids can attend Starlight’s Spring Break Camp during the weeks of March 13-17 or March 20-24. Led by theatre professionals, campers explore acting, singing and dance; rehearse and create sets, props and costumes for a production to be staged for family and friends at the end of the week; and enjoy fun theatre games to enhance their skills. The five-day camp meets from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Before and after care are available for an additional fee. The enrollment fee is $225, and no previous performance experience is required. • NEW! Spring Break Master Classes for youth in grades 6 to 12.
For the first time during spring break, Starlight will offer a series of three half-day master classes for students in middle and high school. Each master class will focus on a different genre of musical theatre, including Golden Age, Contemporary and Pop-Rock. Because the focus differs each day, students may attend one, two or all three master classes offered March 14-16 or March 21-23.

Professional teaching artists will help prepare young artists for auditions and performance in each genre. Students will use solo and group pieces to explore each style; vocal performance will be emphasized, with related movement and acting included. Participants will leave each master class with an awareness of terminology and trends, audition songs and an understanding of how to prepare their voices for the demands of musical theatre.

Master classes for students in grades 6 to 8 meet from 9 a.m. to noon and cost $55 each. Classes for students in grades 9 to 12 meet from 1 to 5 p.m. and cost $70 each. Those who register for all three classes will receive a 10-percent discount. Register online for Spring Break Master Classes or call 816.997.1134 with questions.
