Busloads of volunteers beautify KC Parks Fourth of July week

If you were out and about between the hours of 12:30-3:30 p.m. July 4-6th, there’s a good chance you spotted at least one of the dozens of busloads of volunteers cleaning up litter in parks, along trails, and on boulevards throughout Kansas City. The 1,500+ volunteers are in Kansas City attending the Challenge Conference, an annual event hosted by the Evangelical Free Church of America.

Collectively, the teams spent more than 3,000 hours cleaning up thousands of pounds of fireworks debris and loose litter from 30+ locations throughout the city. Two teams also assisted with brush and honeysuckle removal at two locations. It was an incredibly hot week to serve in the afternoon, but everyone persevered through the heat and did an amazing job.

KC Parks wants to thank all the conference volunteers who helped beautify our shared spaces, and for KC Parks Ambassadors Wil Oden and Christopher Lowrance who served as project site leaders. We also want to especially thank Challenge Conference leader Diane Pickert, who organized the massive volunteer effort
