Gloria Hawkins is a retired educator and fine art photographer. She photographs a variety of subjects but the one that captures her heart completely is country schools. Her expansive collection of schoolhouse photos span a period of 19 years and forty-three states. It includes 1000s of photographs, interviews and historical documents. Using her camera and engaging in personal interviews she preserves the history and the memories of the schools she photographs. She displays her work in galleries, one room schools, universities, libraries, historical societies, museums, city halls, churches, retirement homes and national parks. Gloria’s presentation, “The Many Lives of the One Room Schoolhouse”, tells how the one room school buildings are being used today.
Gloria is a charter member of the Country Schools Association of America and serves on its Board of Directors. She is an active member of the CSAA Scholarship and artistry Committee. She has just recently returned from presenting at the the Country Schools Association Conference 2016 in Fredericksburg,Texas and the Nebraska Country School Conference in Peru, Nebraska.
