KC Parks Opens Second Downtown Dog Park

KC Parks Opens Second Downtown Dog Park

Kansas City Parks and Recreation recently opened our fifth off leash dog park, and our second downtown, in Margaret Kemp Park located at 10th & Harrison. The one-acre fenced park fills the need for a dog park on the eastern edge of downtown.  A members-only dog park on the west side of downtown, West Terrace Dog Park, opened in 2017.

The Kemp Off Leash Dog Park was developed in response to a survey of residents conducted by the Downtown Council in January 2021.  The downtown dwellers overwhelmingly expressed a desire for more dog parks to enhance downtown livability.

With a mission to better activate and improve park facilities across the city, especially in underserved neighborhoods, the underutilized Margaret Kemp Park was a perfect fit for a new KC Parks off leash dog park. The improvements at Kemp Park are part of an overall strategy to find new and better ways to bring people out to enjoy their neighborhood parks.

The Kemp Dog Park features an enclosed area for small, elderly or handicapped dogs as well as an area for large dogs. The park is free and open to all during regular park hours, daily from 5 a.m.-Midnight.
