The heart of the event is the Dragon Boat Race on Brush Creek, a nod to the river dragons in the Miyou River in China and the fishermen who searched for Xu Yuan in 300 BCE. Dragon boat festivals are held throughout the world in late spring to commemorate this event. In Kansas City the defending college champion, the University of Kansas, will challenge UMKC. The Kansas City Parks and Recreation team will compete with Rotary Club 13, Johnson County Community College, the Ethnic Enrichment Commission, KU Medical Center, E-shipping Corporation, the KC Pink Warriors, and the Kansas City Chinese Association. Entertainment above the Creek includes an array of music and dance and activities such as calligraphy demonstrations and children’s activities. Website>>
