Overview
The purpose of the Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department Development Review Committee (DRC) meeting is to give applicants the opportunity to present their preliminary plans for projects, banners, events, etc., to Department staff for review, comment, and direction before proceeding to a formal permitting process. The DRC reviews projects that directly impact Parks or Park’s jurisdictional right-of-way in order to preserve their intended purpose.  The DRC is generally comprised of senior Park’s staff. A project manager will be assigned to each project during the application process.

DRC meets with potential applicants weekly on Thursday mornings from 10:00am-noon. To schedule an appointment with the Parks and Recreation DRC, contact the Parks Planning and Design Services at 816-513-7617 or [email protected].

The applicant should provide enough handouts and/or presentation material for at least 10 people. Drawings, renderings, and boards are also helpful when presenting to the committee. Electronic presentation material is allowed but is not required.  Typically there will be 15 minutes provided for the presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers. 

Information Needed
To make a request for a DRC meeting for your project, banner, event, etc., please provide the following information:

  •         Name and contact information of the applicant.
  •         Name of Business/ Neighborhood Assoc./or list as Private Citizen.
  •         Purpose of the presentation or request.
  •         Site Plan, drawing of area and/or project, banner, event, etc., to be   discussed.
  •         Name of those who will be in attendance on behalf of the application.
  •         Date of availability for the meeting.

Both the general Departmental sign-in sheet and the DRC meeting sign-in sheet will be found at the receptionist desk must be filled out upon arrival.  

Outcome
After the DRC meeting, a course of action will be determined.  Some projects may require no further action and proceed with obtaining the appropriate permits.  Others may require additional information before a determination can be made.  This will be determined on a case by case basis.  You will be notified by the person assigned to your application.
