{Throwback Thursday} Although Santa’s Wonderland premiered in the park area off Gillham Road, south of 39th Street in 1964 the big Santa many people remember did not make his debut until 1967. Designed by Park Department employee Vernon Jones, who later designed figures for the popular Penguin Park in Kansas City North, the creation of Santa and the other figures at Santa’s Wonderland were a team effort.
