SITE LOCATION: 1801 White Ave. STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, & OPPORTUNITIES
CLASSIFICATION: Other The old Blue Valley Recreation Center has been leased by the Police
COUNCIL DISTRICT: 3 Athletic League since 2000. It serves the neighborhood where kids and
families can enjoy playing basketball and volleyball on a large indoor
PARK DISTRICT: QLID court. There are also fitness machines and a boxing ring. The facility
YEAR ACQUIRED: 1960 has meeting rooms, offices, and a lounge with a full kitchen where a hot
meal is served every night. The league fundraises to upkeep the facility
TOTAL AREA (SF): 26,832 sf when there is an issue. Recently they replaced the roof and received
donations to install an outdoor ball field. The interior is in fair condition.
The bathrooms and a few other areas need to be updated to meet
PARK AMENITIES accessibility codes. There is no elevator. Many of the exterior windows
• Meeting Rooms are covered. Uncovering them would add some much-needed natural
• Offices daylight into the space. The exterior brick envelope is generally in good
condition except for minor movement cracks at a few corners.
