A beloved neighborhood park just got a major upgrade. Kansas City Parks & Recreation is proud to announce the grand opening of a brand-new, 22-element sprayground at Ashland Square Park, 2200 Elmwood Ave., offering a fun and refreshing space for families to enjoy all summer long.
Originally established in 1913, Ashland Square Park has long been a place where families, friends, and neighbors come together. With the addition of this modern sprayground, the park enters a new chapter—one filled with laughter, connection, and inclusive outdoor play.
“This new sprayground is more than just a place to cool off,” said Brad Clay, Deputy Director of Kansas City Parks & Recreation. “It’s a vibrant symbol of what we can achieve when we invest in our neighborhoods. It’s exciting, it’s accessible, and it’s here for everyone.”
The total investment of over $1.4 million was made possible through Capital Improvements and Parks & Recreation Sales Tax Funds. Every enhancement reflects the City’s commitment to creating high-quality public spaces where memories are made and community is built.
Designed with accessibility and aesthetics in mind, the sprayground features 22 interactive water elements and was developed to ensure that all children—regardless of ability—can safely and fully participate in the fun.
The project also included several park-wide improvements:
- Restored historic stonework
- Extended sidewalks and new fencing
- Standard and ADA-accessible picnic tables and benches
- New shade canopies for comfortable gathering spaces
As summer heats up, the new sprayground is already drawing excited children and grateful parents alike. It stands as a testament to what’s possible when community and city leadership come together to imagine and build something great.
We invite everyone to come out and experience the new Ashland Square Park—where tradition meets transformation, and fun flows freely.
