The Kansas City community is invited to submit short films or animations for the 6th annual Brush Creek Film Festival on Thursday, May 9 at Theis Park along our beloved Brush Creek. The mission of this event is to entertain, share ideas, and build community through creative and visionary short films about the creek and surrounding communities. Participation from all experience levels is welcomed and encouraged!
This year’s Theme:
The Ripple Effect (Creek Connections)
Films that make connections between Brush Creek and the surrounding environment and communities
This year’s Prop: a ‘Yo-Yo’
Either a literal or symbolic ‘Yo-Yo’ must be referenced at some point in each film
Guidelines:
- Films must feature Brush Creek and include a ‘yo-yo’ at some point in time
- Open to any film genre, format, or style (animation, non-fiction, action, comedy, experimental, etc.)
- Films can be no longer than 5 min. (with credits)
- Any appropriated audio or video must be of CC license / Royalty Free
- Video submissions should be .mp4 format
- Deadline: Sunday, May 5 at 5 PM
All submissions should be sent via a Dropbox or Google Drive link with subject line “Brush Creek Film Fest Entry” to [email protected]
Awards: $250 Jury Prize & $250 Peoples’ choice Award (audience votes)
- Each film will be juried according to the following: artistic merit, technical merit, and relevance to Brush Creek/Theme/Prop

Disclaimer: Submission of work does not guarantee film festival inclusion (though every effort will be made to include all submitted films). Please keep in mind that this is public event with children in attendance. Overly graphic content could result in disqualification. Final screening reel will ultimately be determined a panel of guest jurors. Any award winners must be present at film festival to collect prize.
