KC Parks Spring Fling

KC Parks Spring Fling on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 11 AM-3 PM at the Swope Park Bandstand celebrates the end of Earth week by teaching the community ways to incorporate sustainable practices to help make our parks and planet thrive! Attendees will enjoy performances by Stone Lion Puppet Theatre, our Green Carpet Fashion Show, and hands on learning activities for all ages. This event is free and open to everyone. View event guide

Throughout the event you can check out our partners who have eco-conscious learning activities for all ages. Featured activities include worm composting, upcycled art making, and more! Exhibitors include: Bold Reuse, Cultivate KC, KC Parks Ambassadors, KC Water, Lakeside Nature Center, Missouri Organic Recycling, Re.Use.Full , Ripple Glass, Southeast Community Center, and StoneLion Puppet Theatre.
Green Carpet Fashion Show
The Green Carpet Fashion Show is made up of community makers of all skill levels and ages who make article(s) of clothing using ecofriendly or sustainable practices. Nina Littrell from Soft Street Sustainable Fashion will also be presenting a collection of work as the featured artist of the event. Nina is an environmental activist, maker, natural dyer, and a quilter who works through the medium of garment design.
Participating Designers: Nina Littrell, Afton Lin, Amanda Gillaspie-Woodson, Ashley Philavong, Crush Model Studio, Mariya Slipych, Ryleigh Hightree, Valissa Carnell, and Zee Wear.

Shop small and sustainable with our vendors on site. Bring old clothes that need to be refreshed and get them dyed or customized! Vendors include:
Alyx Jacobs Repairs– For garments that lost their vibrance or need a refresh, the Community Indigo Vat can help make those pieces wearable again! Garments should be light colored, made of natural materials and no larger than 1 yard.
Pricing: $20 for One Item, $35 for Two Items, $55 for Three Items
Soft Street Sustainable Fashion – Personalize piece(s) of clothing with patches, stitching and more or get a piece made by Nina.
Pricing: $5 and up depending on customization.
Taffy Studios by Afton Lin– Add some cute stickers to your reuseable water bottle or brighten up your home with new prints designed by Afton!
Pricing: $5 for Stickers and $20 for Prints
Thrift the Runway – Shop a curated “Spring Fling” collezione’ of handpicked Vintage & Preloved Gems to refresh your wardrobe for Spring & Summer!
Pricing: $10 for Runway Rescue Bins and $28-$79 for Curated “Spring Fling” Collezione
Victoria Cairns Art and Floral Design – Flowers are in bloom! Bring a bouquet home made from in season flowers and learn how to press them.
Pricing: $12 for Petite Bouquet, $20 for Bud Vases, $36 for Lush Bouquet, and $35 for Medium Vase Arrangement
The Stuffed Mushroom– Whether you’re a lifelong mushroom lover or just curious to explore, we’re here to prove that mushrooms can steal the show.
Ciara Barton from Thrift the Runway will be emceeing the event in addition to providing runway tips for the fashion show participants. As the creative force behind Thrift the Runway, a boutique located at 811 E. 31 St, KCMO known for its chic and sustainable aesthetic, Ciara has dedicated herself to promoting eco-friendly practices through various initiatives like the “Thrift Tours KC” Party Bus experience “Trash 2 Treasure Parties” & more.
