Unveiling: Historic Markers on the Battle of Westport Battlefield

October 3 @ 10:00 am - 10:30 am

4800 63rd Street (east of Water Services Parking lot)

The Monnett Battle of Westport Fund announces the upcoming unveiling ceremony of the series of ten historic markers interpreting the Byram’s Ford Battlefield of the Battle of Westport in Kansas City, Missouri. The ceremony will take place on the grounds of the battlefield atop the portion of the field known as Bloody Hill.

A portion of the battlefield is on the National Register of Historic Places as the Byram’s Ford Historic District. These markers were researched and designed by the officers of the Battle of Westport Fund and have been funded by generous donors including members of the Fund and Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area (FFNHA). Byram’s Ford is designated as a Star Site of the FFNHA.

The ceremony will commence at 10:00 AM on Thursday October 3, 2024 and will be conducted adjacent to the new marker on the south end of the concrete walking trail running along the brow of Bloody Hill, east of the Kansas City Water Services Department Building, 4800 E. 63rd Street, Kansas City, Missouri.

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II (MO-5) will provide the principal remarks concerning the battle’s significance to the community and the region.
