Kansas City Parks & Recreation celebrated the official unveiling of Teresa Lynn Rynard Park on Friday, June 27, 2025. Formerly known as Buckeye Greenway Park, the beloved green space now bears the name of Terry Rynard, retired KC Parks Director and the first woman to lead the department in its history.
Located just south of Chouteau Elementary School at 3701 N Jackson Avenue, the park holds special significance—it’s where Terry spent time as a child and was first inspired to serve her community through parks and recreation.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by family, friends, colleagues, and community members, with remarks from KC Parks Board President Beth Haden, District 2 City Councilman Wes Rogers, former Parks Director Mark L. McHenry, and former Commissioner Chris Goode. Terry Rynard herself also spoke, reflecting on her journey from part-time parks employee at age 16 to director of the entire department.
Throughout her career, Terry held multiple leadership positions, including equipment operator and superintendent roles, before leaving to pursue opportunities in other cities. She returned to Kansas City as deputy director in 2013 and became director in 2019. As director, she led initiatives focused on equity and access, including the groundbreaking Quality of Life Investment District (QLID), which brought much-needed resources to historically underserved neighborhoods.
Terry retired in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, inclusion, and community impact. The newly renamed park ensures her story—and her service—will continue to inspire future generations.
