New Hibbs Park memorial commemorates victims, offers space for community healing
On May 15, Kansas City unveiled and dedicated the Children’s Memorial at Hibbs Park, honoring the lives of children lost to violence. Attendees included the public, survivors, and community leaders who came together to remember these young lives and recognize the memorial as a place of healing, reflection, and continued commitment to protecting youth.
The memorial includes names of children submitted by families and community members who died due to violence between 2001 and 2024. The unveiling date, May 15, marks what would have been the birthday of Erica Green—known to many as “Precious Doe”—whose tragic death sparked nationwide attention and community reflection.
