The Pecos League is proud to announce its newest team, the Kansas City Hormigas. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, the Hormigas will wear red and black and play in historic Satchel Paige Memorial Stadium, beginning in 2025.
The Pecos League is an independent baseball league that operates mainly in cities in desert mountain regions throughout Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The Pecos League has 22 teams with no DH used in games. Each team roster has nine experienced players and 14 rookies. Players come from all over the US and the world and are a combination of rising stars, falling stars, shooting stars, and athletes with stars in their eyes. The Pecos League Regular Season is nestled in the middle of the summer from May 22-July 28.
Originally known as the Catholic Youth Council Athletic Field, Satchel Paige Memorial Stadium sits in Kansas City’s urban core. In 1982, the stadium was renovated and rededicated in honor of Satchel Paige who resided in Kansas City for 32 years. Leroy Robert “Satchel” Paige was an American professional baseball pitcher who played in the Negro Leagues and Major League Baseball. His career spanned five decades and culminated with his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
The Hormigas will be comprised of players from various clubs and organizations in Mexico and Venezuela. Games will be announced in Spanish and the team will host events such as $1 beers on Monday and Taco Tuesday specials. Additionally, affordable youth baseball camps will be offered on Monday mornings.
