The beauty of the Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden takes center stage on a new limited-edition T-shirt created for the Kansas City Rose Society by Charlie Hustle, a Kansas City-based company. Charlie Hustle specializes in designing and printing T-shirts, frequently partnering with local and national charities. The shirts will be available during the summer of 2025.
“Sales of this beautiful shirt will help us continue our mission as stewards of the rose garden,” said Laura Dickinson, president of the Kansas City Rose Society. She noted the design of the shirt features the KCRS logo as well as the rose garden’s iconic fountain and pillars, entwined with colorful climbing roses. The shirt costs $38 and can be purchased at www.charliehustle.com or at its flagship retail store on the Country Club Plaza, 4747 Broadway Blvd. A portion of proceeds from sales of the new shirt will benefit the Kansas City Rose Society.
Members of the nonprofit Rose Society nurture the garden’s 3,000 roses and maintain the garden in cooperation with the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department. The garden is located in Kansas City’s Jacob L. Loose Park at 51st Street and Wornall Road in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jon Felton, digital marketing manager of Charle Hustle, described the shirt as “a wearable bouquet for garden lovers.” “The Kansas City Rose Society T-shirt pays tribute to one of the city’s most cherished gems — the Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden in Loose Park,” he said. “Since our company was founded in 2011, part of our mission has been to help charitable organizations elevate their visibility and achieve their fund-raising goals.”
About the Kansas City Rose Society
The Kansas City Rose Society was formed in 1931 as a branch of the American Rose Society, in an effort led by Laura Conyers Smith (1881-1968). Rose Society members maintain the Laura Conyers Smith Municipal Rose Garden through a cooperative partnership with the Kansas City
Parks Department. Members groom the roses, provide gardening expertise and, through a variety of events, raise funds to purchase new roses and rose-care products. Today the 1.5-acre garden boasts about 3,000 roses of nearly 130 varieties. The garden is a centerpiece of the Jacob L. Loose Memorial Park at 51st Street and Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
The Rose Society hosts free garden events open to the public, including an annual rose show, with a competition and display of prize-winning roses; Rose Day, with music and family-friendly activities; Jazz in the Roses; and Family Storytime. An annual ticketed event, Wine & Roses, is a fundraiser that takes place in September. Throughout the year, the garden’s Consulting Rosarians offer rose presentations to groups in the Kansas City region and online resources for rose problem-solving.
