2024 Great Kansas City Cleanup/Earth Day Weekend was a Great Success
Thanks to nearly 1,000 volunteers who showed KC parks and boulevards so much love during the Earth Day/Great Kansas City Cleanup weekend, April 19-22.
Together, volunteers:
- Diverted 12,640 pounds of loose litter away from our waterways
- Diverted 645 pounds of littered glass away from the landfill
- Collected 34 tires
- Removed 1.4 acres of invasive honeysuckle from our parks.
Many thanks go to all the KC Parks Ambassadors who were integral to the planning, preparation, and success of this citywide cleanup event, especially those who took time off work to serve as site leaders.
We also want to acknowledge the tremendous contributions of City staff who volunteered at the cleanups and those involved in planning and coordinating the event. The maintenance crews with KC Parks and Public Works Solid Waste Division both deserve special recognition for their continued commitment to keeping our City clean, and their extraordinary service removing additional litter and brush throughout the weekend.
Finally, thank you to all the businesses and organizations that gave their employees and membership the opportunity to volunteer time on Earth Day. We look forward to partnering with everyone not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year. Let’s keep the momentum going! Get involved here.
