Memorial will Pay Respect to Children who Lost their Lives to Violence

On October 24, KC Parks hosted a groundbreaking for the Children’s Memorial at Hibbs Park. The department has worked with community leaders and families to honor young people who lost their lives to violence. The memorial, first announced during a press event in the spring, will serve as a place of reflection and remembrance for children from the community. The City of Kansas City is funding the memorial, and Parks and Recreation manages the design and construction.

In 2001, an innocent child who the country came to know as “Precious Doe” went unnamed for almost four years. Her remains were discovered near Hibbs Park.  In 2005, police identified her as Erica Green, 3.
