SITE LOCATION: N. Garfield Ave. from N.E. 35th St. to N.E. 34th Ter.
STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, & OPPORTUNITIES
CLASSIFICATION: Park
COUNCIL DISTRICT: 4 Sunset Park preserves over 27 acres of woodland in the Rock Creek
North
PARK DISTRICT: watershed. The property is a natural area and is located on the east
side of N. Garfield Avenue across from single-family homes and north
ESTABLISHED: 1957 of North Kansas City Hospital. This parkland adjoins Rock Creek
ACREAGE: 27.98 acres Park and together they provide over 43 acres of wildlife habitat and a
natural buffer between the residential neighborhoods to the north and
the industry to the south. There is potential to create a multi-use trail
PARK AMENITIES that would link these two parks and Cooley Park further east. Such an
improvement would link neighborhoods and provide the residents with
• Stream/Creek (1) access to all this nature. Necessary improvements would include:
• New KC parks signage
• A multi-use path and associated bridges or water crossings
• Removal of select vegetation to provide visibility
• Management plan for invasive plant species
