Kansas City and the community are remembering young people who lost their lives to violence. Their names will be engraved on the upcoming Children’s Memorial in Hibbs Park. The City invites residents, families, and community members to contribute to this meaningful project by suggesting names that will forever be remembered.
The City of Kansas City is funding the memorial and Parks and Recreation is managing the design and construction. The Parks and Recreation department are collecting the victim’s names. Name suggestions should be of victims who died between 2001 to 2024 and were under the age of 18. Anyone can suggest a victim’s name from April 15-May 15, 2024.
In 2001, an innocent child, who the country came to know as “Precious Doe”, went unnamed for almost four years. Her remains were discovered near Hibbs Park. In 2005, police were able to identify her as Erica Green, 3.
