Chinkapin Oak Tree to be Dedicated to Longtime Kansas City Environmental Leader
Kansas City’s Parks & Recreation Department invites you to celebrate Arbor Day. A Chinkapin Oak tree will be planted to honor Wendy Sangster. She has worked for the Missouri Department of Conservation for almost three decades. Wendy advises communities about land-use planning and design practices to help preserve natural resources. Some of her favorite projects over the years include helping plant thousands of trees along the banks of rivers and parks in the Kansas City Area.
WHAT: Arbor Day Tree Planting
WHEN: Saturday, April 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Jacob L. Loose Park, 5200 Wornall Rd, Kansas City. The ceremony is being held in the Stanley R. McLane Arboretum. The location for the planting ceremony will be on the west side of the park, just southwest of the Rose Garden.

About Tree City USA
Kansas City is a Tree City USA Community. The City received its designation from the organization in 1988 and holds it nearly 40 years later. To be a Tree City USA Community, a city must meet four standards: have a tree board or department, have a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive forestry program, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
About Arbor Day
The Arbor Day Foundation is the world’s oldest and largest tree-planting organization. The foundation began in 1872 with a mission “to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees”. The Arbor Day holiday was founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
